The Virginia Department of Health has awarded Global Action Platform (GAP) a $2 million grant to expand community-based health literacy efforts that advance health equity in Virginia.

The new grant will build upon the success of a prior $1 million grant for Hampton Roads, while supporting the launch of HealthierRVA in the Greater Richmond region. Together, the initiatives will help Medicaid-eligible, lower-income, and underserved Virginians gain the knowledge and tools needed to make informed health decisions and adopt healthier behaviors.

Through partnerships with community organizations, healthcare providers, local governments, schools, and other regional leaders, the program will combine health education, community engagement, and digital learning through the Rewards for Healthy Living platform. Priority areas will include chronic disease prevention, maternal and infant health, behavioral health, substance-use prevention, healthy aging, and workforce wellness.
